Sonia Thomas is a social news reporter at Buzzfeed and one of the most recognisable personalities on the Indian internet. Between putting up relatable videos for the community, sharing valuable insights and learnings on everything from feminism to self-care and dating, we caught up with her to talk about skincare – what it means to her, learnings from her personal experiments and her experience with VAUNT.
What have been some of the most significant learnings and revelations from your journey?
The most important learning, I have realised, is that your mental health is as important as your physical health.
What were you early steps into skincare like?
I started off with cleanser and moisturiser, but without really looking into ingredients. I only recently (read: 2 years back) added toner and sunscreen regularly to my routine.
Over the years, how has your approach to skincare evolved?
I have realised that simple steps: cleansing, toning, moisturising, and exfoliating are honestly all you really need to keep your skin in good shape. Add sun protection to that and one is set for life. I am more mindful of the ingredients that go into the products now. Focus on the ingredients and their function instead of just adding steps to your routine.
What’s the shift you’d like to see in the context of skincare in India?
I think, skincare in India is becoming more informed and less about just “washing your face”. We’re also using science to understand our own remedies and local ingredients better.
Tell us about your experience with VAUNT Skincare.
